Taoism

Taoism Taoism is one of the two great philosophical and religious traditions that originated in China.The other religion native to China is Confucianism. Both Taoism and Confucianism began atabout the same time, around the sixth century B.C.E. China's third great religion, Buddhism,came to China from India around the second century of the common era. Together, these threefaiths have shaped Chinese life and thought for nearly twenty-five hundred years (Hartz 3).One dominate concept in Taoism and Buddhism is the belief in some form of reincarnation.The idea that life does not end when one dies is an integral part of these religions and the cultureof the Chinese people. Reincarnation, life after death, beliefs are not standardized. Eachreligion has a different way of applying this concept to its beliefs. This paper will describe thereincarnation concepts as they apply to Taoism and Buddhism, and then provide a comparison ofthe two.TaoismIt does not changes one habits in living as there are no religious habits or religious ceremonies at all. What that Taoism really changes his followers are their inner self, their idea about life and the universe. Taoism tells people how they can live and how their life can go on like. It is just a way of thinking and living harmony with nature. Taoism is never a religion. There is no Gods, deities, rituals, altars, or ceremonies for people to follow; there are no disciplines or regularities that people need to practice; there are no promises on the result of following this belief or punishment on not following certain disciplines.Our learning of Taoism is basically coming from the book written by Lao Tze, Tao De Jing.
